Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year!
Dear MLK Families, Welcome to a new school year! I am honored and excited to join the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School community as your new principal.
As I begin my first year at MLK, I look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff while learning about the traditions and strengths that make this school so special. I believe that strong schools are built on strong partnerships, and I am committed to creating a welcoming environment where every student feels valued, every family feels connected, and every staff member feels supported.
Together, we will ensure that every child is challenged, encouraged, and inspired to reach their full potential. I look forward to meeting you throughout the year and partnering with you to make this an exceptional school year.
With excitement and gratitude, Susie Shin Principal

Arrival Procedures
School begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Students should be lined up with their teacher by 8:00 a.m. so they can begin the day with their classmates. Arriving on time helps students establish daily routines, feel a sense of belonging, and participate in the full instructional program from the very beginning of the day.
The campus gates will close at 8:00 a.m. To allow plenty of time for parking, walking to class, or eating breakfast, we recommend arriving by 7:45 a.m. Students are welcome to enjoy breakfast in the cafeteria before school. Please note, only students will be allowed to enter the cafeteria for breakfast to ensure that we have enough space for all students.
First Day of School
On the first day of school, parents and guardians are welcome to walk their child(ren) onto campus and escort them to their classroom. Students who would like breakfast may go to the cafeteria; please note that only students are permitted inside the cafeteria.
After dropping off your child(ren), we invite you to return to the cafeteria for Coffee with Admin at 8:10 a.m. We look forward to meeting you and kicking off a wonderful school year together!
If you plan to walk onto campus, please park in the school parking lot or in a legal street parking space. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the drop-off lane, as it must remain clear for the safety and efficiency of morning arrival.
Pick-Up Procedures
On most days, school dismisses at 2:25 p.m. On Wednesdays, dismissal is at 12:50 p.m. Since the first day of school falls on a Wednesday, all students will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m.
TK–Kindergarten: Students will be dismissed from their classrooms. Parents and guardians should park legally and enter campus through the Broadway gate to pick up their child.
Grades 1–6: Students will be dismissed from the front of the school.
For the safety of all students and families, please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the drop-off/pick-up lane. Keeping the lane moving helps ensure a safe and efficient dismissal for everyone.
