2022-2023 Middle and High School Start Times

In the 2022-2023 school year, school districts across the state must implement a later start time for middle and high schools. In 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom placed some restrictions on what time schools start at. This bill, known as Senate Bill 328, does not allow middle schools to start before 8 am, and does not allow high schools to start before 8:30 am.

Ready. Set. Register.

Is your child registered for the 2022-2023 school year? The first day of school is Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The school calendar is also available.

Principal's Message

Welcome to MLK School of the Arts, where our mission to is empower students to cultivate a passion for learning through the arts.

We are proud to be a partner in the Turnaround Arts program, a network of schools across the nation dedicated to ensuring all children have access to the arts.  At MLK SOA, every student receives dedicated arts instruction from a Visual Arts Specialist and Music Specialist every week in addition to the arts-integrated curriculum in their classroom. We practice mindfulness and promote the 5 qualities of the Artist Profile: Proud, Creative, Caring, Inquisitive, and Open-Minded. Through our community partnerships with local arts organizations, our students engage in Artist Residencies with learning opportunities resulting from collaborations between local artists and their teacher.

We're driven to provide the best educational experience for your child possible and look forward to welcoming you for a visit to our School of the Arts soon.
